Bex Takes On…Khao Sak National Park

Finally a decent internet connection! Where were we? Ah, yes, leaving Bangkok.

My bunk on the sleeper train

We took a night train from Bangkok to Surat Thani. It wasn’t a bad first experience – I did manage to get some sleep (and three mosquito bites in a perfect triangle)!

From the train station, we jumped straight into a mini bus and made our way to the beautiful Khao Sak National Park.

Our visit started with a boat ride around the man made lake to take in the stunning scenery. Compared to Bangkok, it was so peaceful.

We were taken to a floating restaurant, where there are also cabins that you can stay in overnight. For lunch we ate fish from the lake which tasted lovely.

Desperate for a break from the heat, it was great to go for a swim in the lake. The water was cool and refreshing. Our group leader had a lot of fun making us jump in again and again to make a good boomerang video!

On our way back across the lake, we hit a bump in the road when our boat ran out of petrol. Our only option was to wait for another boat to rescue us. Luckily we didn’t have to wait long!

From there we were taken to our next hotel, located in the jungle!

The hotel in the jungle!

We were greeted by some cheeky monkeys climbing on to our balconies and even stealing one of the girls’ packet of crisps!

A cheeky monkey on our first floor balcony!

Next stop: Ko Samui, for island hopping!

  1. It all sounds very exciting. Just one week today since you set out on your trek around the globe. Check the fuel in the tank before your next boat trip.
