Bex Takes On…Noosa

After all the physical activity in Byron, I slept like a baby and woke up full of energy for a day of sitting on a coach! Luckily, we had a few stops planned along the way…

Our first destination was Hosanna Farm, where we are able to feed the pigs, milk a cow and hold a chick. At the end of the visit we cooked our own damper over the fire (a basic bread dough which tastes excellent smothered in syrup once cooked!). Explorers used to make the dough to cook and eat as they adventured through the outback.

Our next stop was Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary where I was eager to see the koalas and kangaroos.

We headed straight for the kangaroo enclosure where you can get up close and personal with them. They were pretty chilled out, laying in the sun. Some of the females even had Joeys in their pouch! Super cute.

There is also an animal hospital at the zoo, where they have recently done a lot of work with animals affected by the recent bush fires. Most care has been given to koalas who have suffered burns and dehydration in these awful conditions. You can actually watch the vets work as they carry out procedures on sick and injured animals. Amazing to see the great work being carried out!

The final leg of the journey took us to our accommodation in Noosa. We stayed in cute huts, in the middle of nowhere, with wild kangaroos hopping around us. See the first picture at the top of the page – taken by my roommate!

The next day was our trip to Fraser Island – the largest natural sand island in the world! We were picked up by our guides and taken to a petrol station to change into a 4×4 beast of a vehicle in order to be able to drive on the sand.

What a beast!

The day involved a lot of driving, surrounded by gorgeous views. Two of the girls sat up front and took on the role of DJ. We belted out various hits as we made our way along the beautiful beach. It certainly kept us entertained!

Eventually, we arrived at Lake McKenzie but before we were left to explore we had to have a briefing about the dingos. Although they look like cute dogs, Dingos are wild animals and we were in their territory so we had to remain vigilant. Luckily we didn’t see any during our visit!

We were given time to swim and sunbathe before meeting up again for lunch. I have never seen a lake so beautiful, water so clear or sand so white. It was even warm…perfect for a swim and a photo shoot!

After lunch, our final destination was to a stream that is believed to be a sacred place for aboriginal women. Many travelled there to give birth in the amazingly clean and clear water. According to our guide, all births that have taken place there have been safe and trouble-free. I really enjoy learning more about local history and culture whenever I visit somewhere new.

On the way back we stopped on the beach for more photo opportunities and to give the DJs a break – we were running out of songs and phone battery!

It had been an early start, and most of us slept on the way back to our accommodation. Always good to reserve energy for the next part of the journey.

Next stop – Whitsundays!
