There was a brief moment of uncertainty on our way to Singapore, due to concerns about the Coronavirus. But with reassurance from the Government that it was safe, and armed with a face mask and anti-bacterial gel, we crossed the border.

Our first stop that evening was for the light show at Gardens by the Bay. The gardens are right next to the Marina and are home to several man made trees, installed in 2012, that now have plants growing up them. These trees lit up as part of the show, in time to classical musical. It was magical!

After the show, we headed to the Marina Bays Sand Hotel to visit their observation deck. The hotel is made up of 3 towers, joined by a structure on top that looks like a surfboard. This forms a rooftop bar, infinity pool and observation desk. Only residents of the hotel can use the pool, but you can visit the observation desk.

By the time we got up there, the sun had set and storm clouds gathered. Luckily the rain held off and it was still clear enough to see the amazing views. One side looked out over the gardens and Marina, whilst the other looked out over the city. It was brilliant to be somewhere I had seen so many times on the TV during Grand Prix coverage. Another happy moment for my inner F1 geek!

We ended the evening with a night cruise along the river. It was so interesting to learn more about the history of the city. It was once a polluted fishing town, full of sewer waste and rubbish. But after a concerted effort by the Prime Minister the city was completely changed. The polluted river water is now the source of drinking water for the city and even chewing gum is illegal so as to keep the streets clean.

A fascinating city that I would love to learn more about. Think I’ll have to come back for the Grand Prix!
Great night photos. The storm clouds make a dramatic backdrop
